Captain Donn E Perkins of Charlotte, NC age 62, entered into eternal life on August 18, 2016. The native of Willacoochee Ga, he was the son of Albert and the late Eva Mae Perkins. He was proceeded in death by his brother George G. Perkins. A 26-year resident of Charlotte NC, Captain Perkins was a family man, community leader, financial expert and philanthropist. He was a strong believer in education, helping to fund scholarships and college educations for many residents. As a pilot for US Airways since 1983, Donn flew the DC-9 and the Boeing fleet. From 1976 to 1983 he was a Navy Bomber Pilot with the call sign “Black Duck". He graduated in 1975 from Fort Valley State University and became a member of the Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Donn has been a faithful member of the Sugar Creek Church of Christ since its inception, singing in the chorus and a being a member of the financial committee.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a father, Albert Perkins, a loving son, Donn Lymone Perkins, grandchildren, Danyaal and Aliyah Perkins (Ms. Kelly Diggs-Mother), a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Larry L. Perkins, Sr. (Judith), a sister-in law, Mrs. Carolyn D. Perkins, and his longtime and loving girlfriend, Ms. Dawn Grant. Other family members include an uncle, Rev. Willie Perkins of Willacoochee, GA., aunts Mrs. Dorothy Williams and Mrs. Willie Mae Matthews of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The Homegoing Services are Friday August 26th at 11 AM, at Sugar Creek Church of Christ, Charlotte, NC and Sunday August 28th at 2 PM, at Willacoochee Elementary School Gym, Willacoochee, GA.burial will follow in Oak Grove Crossroads Cemetery.
