Life Reflections
Mankind is often mesmerized by the quietness and sounds of God’s Nature: the chirping of bluebirds, the rustling of dried leaves, the dog wandering, the small breezes, the pecking of the woodpecker, and the tiny squirrels running here and there with their cheeks puffed to capacity with pecans. From early childhood our beloved “Man” was also enthralled by Mother Nature and could often be found playing outside with bugs, birds, worms, frogs, gophers, and snakes.
Edmond was the fourth child and the second son born to Edward (Bud) Davis and Pauline Ellis Davis of Broxton, Georgia. He was affectionately called “Man”, a nickname that stuck for his entire lifetime. As with all their children, his parents taught him biblical principles and commandments at home. “Man” attended Sunday School and church. He did not forget his early teaching as he confessed his sins and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Amen!
“Man” began his formal education at Mary Hayes Elementary and graduated from Broxton High School, Class Of 1976. After graduation he continued working in the pulpwood/logging business with his father. He was passionate about dismantling things (toasters, bicycles, lamps, heaters, lawnmowers, cars, trucks and tractors) to examine how they worked and then putting them back together- sometimes with alterations. “Man” was widely known and sought out for his mechanic skills. His father tried to make a farmer out of him, encouraging and demonstrating how to plant and cultivate vegetables in the family garden. However, “Man” preferred having greasy hands over having a green thumb. He was the middle child and truly walked to the beat of a different drummer.
Edmond “Man” Davis leaves behind a unique legacy that will be remembered long after today, tomorrow, and the next decade. In spite of his faults and shortcomings, he was a friend and a helper to many people in Coffee County. He will sorely be missed.
“Man” was preceded in death by his father, Edward (Bud) Davis, his nephew, Terrez Ellis and his brother- in- law, Francis Douglas Lane.
Memories of “Man” will be cherished by his mother, Pauline E. Davis; his four children: Brandon DeShazor Davis, Bridgett De’Neisha Davis, Brianna Shantel Davis and Brunderius Ta’Quan (Ty) Davis; his siblings: John Edward Davis (Gloria), Earline D. Lane, Dean Davis – Williams (John), Vicki McElhaney ( James), Anthony Davis, and Helen Davis; two special nieces: Sabrina Davis Lott (Dexter) and Omni Gaines (Courtney); a dear neighbor: Kaye Kirkland; three aunts: Josephine (Davis) Pace, Helen Ellis and Jackie Ellis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
