Obituary

We do not understand the mysteries of death, but it is the heritage of a great faith that we lay our blessed dead away. In this we find our comfort and our strength. Human life, like nature has its seasons: childhood and youth are the spring of life, manhood is the summer, declination is the autumn, and old age is the winter. We were blessed to have our loved one who went by many names (Edward, Daddy, Bud) in our lives for ninety years, seven months and three days. To God be the Glory!

Edward Davis was the eldest son and the second child born to Rev. Edward Davis Sr. and Essie Bell Whitfield of Fales, Georgia. He was affectionally called Bud by family and friends. Bud attended the public schools of Coffee County. After he received his driver’s permit, he became the chauffeur for his preacher dad.

On December 24, 1948 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Pauline Ellis, the eldest daughter of Paul Ellis Sr and Allie Mae Ryles Ellis. This union was blessed with seven children. Together Bud and Pauline worked hard and continuously to support their growing family. He was often the “behind the scenes parent” but encouraged his children to excel in school, to work hard and to help others. He accompanied his family to church at Miracle Temple, Sunnyside Holiness Church, The Move of God, and Pine Street Church of God. Bud accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and could be often heard singing songs of worship.

Bud was an avid farmer. He also worked in the timber businesses of turpentine, logging, pulpwood, and setting out new saplings. Bud excelled in planting huge vegetable gardens, always willing to share with family and friends, unless someone trampled the vines. He also loved hunting and fishing.

Bud was preceded in death by both parents, Essie Bell Davis and Rev. Edward Davis Sr; all of his siblings, Alfred Davis (Cloteal), JD Davis, Rosa Davis Washington and Genell Davis Condry (Ira); and one grandson, Terrez Ellis.

Many cherished memories are etched in the minds and hearts of his wife of seventy-two (72) years, Pauline E. Davis; his seven children, John Edward Davis (Gloria), Earline Lane (Francis), Dean Davis-Williams (John), Edmond Davis, Vicki McElhaney (James), Anthony Davis, and Helen Davis; two granddaughters reared as daughters, Sabrina Lott (Dexter), and Omni Davis. Bud will also be remembered by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; his god-children; his sister-in-law Josephine (Davis) Pace and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
