Deacon James Preston Mizell was born May 27, 1937 in Telfair County to the late Mr. Andrew Mizell, Sr. and Mrs. Georgia Wilcox Mizell. Dea. Mizell was the eighth of eleven children. Seven sibling preceded him in death. At an early age he became a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Later in life he moved his membership to Cathedral True Praise Institutional Baptist Church and was one of the founding members. Dea. Mizell served as a deacon, member of the Trustee Board and church Treasure. He was a faithful member of the Sunday school and Bible Enrichment classes. Dea. Mizell served faithful and had the church Ministry in his heart.
Dea. Mizell leaves to cherish his memories of fifty-nine years a loving and devoted wife Mrs. Odessa Simpson Mizell of Douglas, Georgia. To this union six children were born. One son preceed him in death, Mr. James Lawrence Mizell, Jr.
Deacon Mizell loving children; Wallace (Stephanie) Mizell, Sandra (Adolph) Paulk, Regina (Dexter) Reed, Georgia Newton, Kendrick (Donna) Mizell and Andrew Smith. He will be missed sorrowfully by his brother and sisters: Rev. Walter Lee (Sue) Mizell, Arzella Outlaw, Berline Aldridge and Annie Hall. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
