To everything there is a season a time to every purpose under the
heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1
A Time To Be Born… Mrs. Mary Joyce Wilson Wright was born to the
late to Mr. Willie and Mrs. Susie Wilson of Alamo, Georgia on October
29.
A Time To Plant…. The vines of her life were rooted in Wheeler
County and Coffee County. She grew and began her fellowship with
Mayfield Zion AME Church and later joined Gaines Chapel AME
Church where she served on the Trustee, Steward and Stewardess
Boards, Sunday School Teacher, and member of the Mary Garmon
Missionary Society. She lived by the motto of “Only what you do for
Christ will last”. After graduating from Alamo High School, she
attended Albany State University where she received her B.S. degree
in Early Childhood with a specialization in Special Education. She
later went on to complete her M.S. degree at Valdosta State
University with a concentration in Reading.
A Time To Love… On December 16, 1961, she was joined into holy
matrimony to Jimmy Lee Wright, Jr., unto this union two daughters
were born, Sherri Lavone and Susan Elizabeth.
A Time To Buildup…. As a woman doeth good in life, she also
rejoiceth and enjoys the fruit of her labor. Mrs. Wright taught in the
Coffee County School System for over thirty years and after
retirement, she continued her service as an Adult Literacy Teacher at
Wiregrass Technical College.
A Time To Laugh…The joys and pleasures of her life were her
husband, her girls, her relatives and friends whom God had given her.
She was an active member of the Queenell Chapter No. 243 Order of
Eastern Star, Coffee County Citizens United for Progress, and the
Kiwanis. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family
and friends, aerobics, gardening, and watching sports.
A Time To Die… She made her transition on November 26, 2025, at
Coffee Regional Medical Center.
A Time Of Peace…The legacy of her season is left to her loving and
devoted daughters who she affectionately called her “girls”, Ms. Sherri
Lavone Wright and Dr. Susan Elizabeth Wright of Atlanta, Georgia;
one loving and devoted brother, Mr. Carnell Wilson of McRae,
Georgia, five loving and devoted sisters, Mrs. Pansy McLendon of
Dublin, Georgia, Mrs. Willie Lou Harrell of Martinez, Georgia, Mrs.
Mary E. Robinson of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Mrs. Catherine Wilson and
Mrs. Marion Wilson of Alamo, Georgia. A host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends. Eight devoted caregivers, Mrs. Sylvia Martin,
Mrs. Linda Jackson, Ms. Sabrina Pace, Mrs. Dianne Williams, Ms. Iris
Mizell, Ms. Tonya Crockett, Ms. Shelia Zachary, Mrs. Carol Smith, and
a neighbor that was like a son, Mr. David Pace.
