Mary Christine Reams Johnson was born on September 4, 1938 to Henry Reams and Ossilean Glenn Reams in Durham, North Carolina. She was a resident of Englewood, New Jersey for many years. Mary attended Durham County public schools including Little River Elementary School and Hillside High School.
Mary moved to Harlem, New York in 1960. In 1963, she met Robert Lee Johnson. The couple were united in matrimony that same year. This union continued for the next 52 years until Mary was called home by the Lord on Friday, August 21, 2015.
Mary’s pleasant smile, outgoing and courteous demeanor led her to employment at first class New York City mid-town hotels such as The Roosevelt and The Berkshire Place where she worked for 25 years as front desk receptionist because she was the person that any good company wanted to greet clients and guests. Due to health issues and concerns of her beloved husband, Mary decided to retire from the business world early. However, Mary took that opportunity to begin serving the Lord at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Englewood, New Jersey where she was a member and president of the culinary ministry.
Mary was a woman with a heart that radiated love for her husband, family and all people whom she encountered and that love was returned. She is survived by her husband: Robert Lee Johnson of Englewood, NJ; daughter, Mischelle Renee Leathers of Yonkers, NY; three granddaughters: Keema Renee Leathers of Yonkers, NY; Juantia Mischelle Leathers of the Bronx, NY; Regina Christine Leathers of Yonkers, NY; two great grandchildren: Deja Denise Stukes of Yonkers, NY and Robert Alijemen Smalls Jr. of Yonkers, NY whom she affectionately called “the little man”; one sister and two brothers: Daisy Ann Gonder and Graham Reams of Durham, NC; Henry Reams of Philadelphia, PA and a host of Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, relatives and friends.
