Obituary

Mattie M. Stewart was born August 14, 1942 to Charlie Reed and Lula Mobley
in Broxton, Georgia. She was the youngest of two children born to this union. Her sister Annie Lou Amos preceded her in death.

“Teeny” as her family called her, attended Mary Hayes Elementary School and Carver High School in Broxton, Georgia. She also went to Nursing School and became a Certified Nurse’s Assistant.

Mattie met and married her lifetime sweetheart Donald Stewart. They were
married on March 9, 1964. To this union six wonderful children were born.

Mattie was reared in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church in Georgia. She joined St. Luke COGIC in 1994 under the leadership of Bishop James C. Austin, Sr. where she served as a Greeter until her health failed her.

Mattie was hardworking. She loved to care for people and she chose a profession that allowed her to practice her passion at Holy Family Hospital for over twenty-five years.

Mattie was loved by everyone. She had a kind heart and a gentle graceful spirit that she shared with all that crossed her path. No one was a stranger to her; if she saw you doing wrong she told you what was right, if you were doing right she would encourage you to continue to do right and make sure you put God first. Now If Mattie was known for her love of people, that love surely extended in the food she prepared, as she was known for her expertise in the kitchen. As a woman from the south, her specialty was southern cooking, homemade cakes, and sweet potato pies. She also had a passion for planting the most beautiful flowers in her
yard and decorating her house for Christmas; that responsibility she entrusted to no one other than her oldest son, Donald Lynn Stewart Jr.

Because of her love of God, you would often find her at the kitchen table
reading her bible or listening to television ministries. If you came into her house, you heard about the Lord period!

Mattie loved spending time with her family. She looked forward to Sunday dinners after church and spending every holiday cooking with and for her family, not missing one. She also looked forward to the annual family vacation to Georgia every year in August.

On December 13, 2018 at 3p.m., Mattie peacefully transitioned to Heaven.
Waiting to welcome her are: her mother and father, sister Annie Amos, close cousin Mary Walker, and son-in-law Harvey Young.
